MCTC Wins Seven Medals at USATF Nationals

Morris County Track Club Wins Seven Medals at USATF National Youth Indoor Track and Field Championships. Elorm Akasreku Wins Long Jump Gold Sets Indoor Record

Landover, Prince Georges County, Maryland, March 9-10 – Five Morris County Track Club athletes racked up an impressive seven medals led by the break out performance of Elorm Akasreku of Landing who took first place in the13-14 Year-Old Boys Division Long Jump. Akasreku won the gold with a meet record setting jump of 5.96 meters. The previous record was 5.17 meters set in 2012. Akasreku also took sixth place in the 55 meter dash with a time of 7.16. In the same division Denville’s Matias Pellegrino won the fourth place medal in the Long Jump with the distance of 5.28 meters. Pellegrino also won the silver medal in the Triple Jump.
In the Boys 9-10 Year-Old Division Rawle Workman’s (Parsippany) 3.74 meter Long Jump took the silver medal. Connor Cooper of Hopatcong won the bronze medal with a jump of 3.64 meters. In the 13-14 Year-Old Girls Division Anjali Pai of Rockaway won the fourth place medal with a jump of 4.87 meters. Also competing in the Championship meet was Marcus Workman (Parsippany) who placed 11th overall in the 13-14 year-old Boys Division Long Jump.
More than 1,300 athletes competed for national honors at the USATF National Youth Indoor Track & Field Championships in Prince George's County, Maryland. Coach Horatio Pellegrino was thrilled with the team’s results stating, “this was a great way to end the indoor season. I am extremely proud of this team and their accomplishments.” Long Jump and Sprint Coach Dave Lado said, “ To compete on a national stage and post these results proves that MCTC athletes know that effort equals results.”
The Morris County Track Club is a not-for-profit organization formed for top-tier youth athletes who want to compete in track meets sanctioned by national organizations like the AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) and the USATF (United States Track & Field, the governing body for track and field, long-distance running and race walking in the United States).
